In the world of racing pigeons, it seems that everything is up for debate lately. But sometimes… we cross the line. Just look at the current discussion about races that might be canceled or delayed due to expected weather conditions. Some fanciers now suggest we should move basketing days or change release locations last minute.
📅 Basketing means basketing. Releasing means waiting. Period.
The pigeon sport has thrived for over a hundred years based on one key principle: clarity and predictability. You know the basketing day. You know the planned release point. And if it’s not possible to release there?
You simply wait until it is. Meanwhile, you take excellent care of the pigeons. If it can’t happen on Sunday either, then – and only then – you may consider relocating.
That’s how it should be. No confusion. No improvisation. Just structure, and a fair playing field for all.
🤔 The fancier carries the responsibility – not the organizations!
Let me be crystal clear: the welfare of the pigeons is the fancier’s responsibility, not the national or regional organizations. Not the release committee. Not the weather man. You decide whether to basket. You decide whether to trust the weather. And if you want to risk it for a few extra ace pigeon points? That’s your call – but own that decision.
Too often, fanciers push their birds too far in the hope of one more top result for their rankings. But that’s not what the pigeon sport should be about. We need to bring the focus back to what matters: love for the pigeons, respect for nature, and fair competition.
🚛 Still no release on Sunday?
If by Sunday the weather still doesn’t allow a release, then – and only then – it may be time to consider driving to a new location. But not on Wednesday already, based on unreliable forecasts or weather apps. Let’s stop gambling and start relying on experience and common sense.
📣 Let’s bring back peace and clarity
Pigeons are not machines. They sense stress and uncertainty. Every time we change plans or stir up confusion, we disrupt the peace they need to perform. That hurts their performance and their welfare.
Give your pigeons a fair chance. Give yourself and everyone else a stable, honest system.
I call for clarity, calm, and consistency. No drama. No chaos. Just pigeon racing as it was meant to be.
Pigeon racing isn’t about noise – it’s an art form. A tradition. A way of life. Let’s protect that.
