💬 Meet the Man Behind the Birds – Christian of Team Hooymans NL
What makes this triumph truly special is the man behind the birds. Christian has been flying under the name Team Hooymans NL since 2019, but his journey began long before that — at just nine years old, inspired by his uncle and supported by his parents.
The first years? Tough. Full of setbacks and second-guessing.
“I kept blaming the location or tried little tricks to get my pigeons into form. Nothing worked. Until I realized — it’s all about the pigeons themselves.”
That turning point came in 2015, when Christian began a breeding partnership with Jan Hooymans, working with the legendary ‘Harry’ lines. That combination of top genes and hands-on care turned out to be dynamite. Since 2019, Christian races exclusively with Jan’s pigeons under the Team Hooymans NL banner — with his own unique touch.
⚙️ A Hobbyist with a Champion’s Mindset
Though the results scream "professional", Christian still sees himself as a hobbyist — and insists on keeping it that way:
“I don’t want my happiness or income to depend on pigeon results. That would kill the joy. This is my passion, not my job.”
He flies on instinct. With structure, yes — but without obsession. No over-medication, no over-complication. Just good pigeons, a good system, and a deep connection with his birds.
🤝 Two Captains, One Course
The partnership between Jan Hooymans and Christian is built on trust and respect. Jan focuses on breeding and the international testing of his lines — in the Netherlands, Belgium, England, and top one loft races worldwide. Christian manages the racing team in Wijk en Aalburg.
“Jan gives me full freedom. We discuss things, have different preferences, and that works perfectly.”
Jan prefers smaller pigeons. Christian likes them slightly bigger — but performance always speaks louder than shape.
And the results? Week after week, they're phenomenal.
🕊️ A Tribute to What Makes Our Sport So Beautiful
This performance from Team Hooymans NL isn't just a win — it’s a love letter to the pigeon sport.
- The childhood dream of a boy who became a champion
- The friendship and teamwork between two passionate fanciers
- The power of breeding over gimmicks
- The love for the pigeon, above all else
And then, there’s that magical moment… when your pigeon arrives home from 393 kilometers away, in perfect form, defying time and space. It’s that feeling we all live for.
To Team Hooymans NL: congratulations on this magnificent victory from Melun. This is not just your win — it’s a win for the entire pigeon sport. You are an example of how it can be done… and how it should be.
