Saturday, May 31st, 2025 – a date that won’t be forgotten anytime soon in the Dutch pigeon racing scene. On this bright spring morning, no less than 9,799 pigeons were released at 08:00 AM in Hirson (France) for a challenging 388 km mid-distance flight to the north. With steady weather and a supportive tailwind, conditions were ideal for a fast race — but only one loft could take the crown.
And that honor went to Tjeerd & Jouke Elzinga from Harkema, Friesland. Their top pigeon crossed the finish line at 12:28:21, flying at a blistering 1,447.470 meters per minute – securing 1st place overall in the entire liberation!
