Two weeks after Bressols, another golden victory for Zeeland’s marathon master!

In pigeon racing, there are winners… and there are legends in the making. Chris Paauwe from Kruiningen, Zeeland is unmistakably becoming one of the latter. Just two weeks after his commanding victory on Bressols, he writes history once again — this time on the prestigious long-distance classic Tarbes, covering an astonishing 962.888 km. His top hen “Anna” (NL24-8456370) wins both 1st National Sector 1 (2,701 pigeons) and 1st overall Sectors 1+2 combined (4,092 pigeons) with a powerful 1044.064 m/min.

Victories like this don’t just happen. They are built on vision, bloodlines, and unwavering dedication. Chris Paauwe is long-distance racing in its purest form.

Tarbes 2025 – The marathon of marathons

  • Liberation: Friday, July 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM in Tarbes (La Loubere)
  • Distance to Kruiningen: 962.888 km

  • Weather conditions: Light cloud cover, NW wind (3), 23°C

  • Number of fanciers: 503

  • Pigeons in Sector 1: 2,701

  • Pigeons in Sector 2: 1,391

  • Total (S1 + S2 combined): 4,092

  • Arrival time of “Anna”: 10:13:15 AM, Saturday

  • Average speed: 1044.064 m/min

A grueling race, demanding the very best from both fancier and bird. Yet when others falter, Chris rises to the occasion. This is not luck. This is elite-level pigeon racing.

“Anna”: Born to conquer the classics

“Anna” isn’t just a winner — she’s a pedigree powerhouse. Her mother is the renowned “Little Thunder”, who achieved:

  • 🥉 11th National Narbonne 2022 against 6,260 pigeons

  • 🏅 10th International Narbonne (yearlings & hens)

Her father is a son of Steffie, from the iconic Jelle Jellema line. That makes “Steffie” — the international sensation on Barcelona, Agen, and Narbonne — her grandmother.

From her dam’s side we find a granddaughter of Zwart Goud, one of the most influential marathon breeders in the world. And through New Jade 1 x d’Orion/Silvie (Battenburg-Jellema), her pedigree reads like a royal family tree of the ZLU.

“Anna” is not just bred for the marathon – she was born to win it.

Tarbes result: depth, quality and dominance

Chris entered 9 pigeons for Tarbes — and although we highlighted his top performers, the full team result was equally impressive.

  • 🥇 1st National S1 & S1+S2 – “Anna”

  • 🥈 16th National – NL22-8504566M

  • 🥉 864th National – NL23-9358344M

That kind of result shows depth, consistency, and bold decision-making. A loft prepared to peak at exactly the right moment.

Flashback: Victory on Bressols

Just two weeks earlier, on July 5, Chris also won the national race from Bressols. His first-signed pigeon clocked 1174 m/min and left the competition behind in style.

Two major victories in just 14 days? That’s called dominance.

Who is Chris Paauwe?

Chris is a true pigeon fancier — heart and soul. He started with his father and launched his own loft in 2004 in Kruiningen with 12 pigeons from Hans Eijerkamp & Sons, including lines from Black Giant, Daxter, Drogba, and Salinero. These birds became the foundation of his now-iconic Barcelona family.

From 2008 onward, he enhanced his breeding base with top-class pigeons from:

  • Jelle Jellema

  • Arjan Beens

  • Ko van Dommelen

  • Jos Pepping

In 2015, Chris made the switch to the ZLU morning liberation program — and immediately became long-distance champion of IFC Zeeland, with stunning results:

  • 100% prize at Pau (4/4)

  • 🥇 1st Marseille

  • 🧮 16 prizes from 39 pigeons on 8 races — an exceptional 41% hit rate on pure marathons

Since then, he has been the man to beat in Zeeland and a fixed name at the top on both ZLU and NPO races.

Summary: A summer of supremacy

  • 🏆 1st National Tarbes Sector 1 – 2,701 pigeons
  • 🏆 1st National Tarbes S1+S2 combined – 4,092 pigeons

  • 💥 Second national-level victory in just two weeks (after Bressols)

  • 🧬 “Anna” from Jellema, Battenburg and Eijerkamp lines

  • 🧠 Strategic long-term breeding — nothing left to chance

  • 🇳🇱 Consistent national results on NPO and ZLU levels

💬 Thoughts from The Pigeon Boss

Let me be crystal clear: Chris Paauwe is one of the strongest marathon fanciers in the Netherlands. No noise. No ego. Just results. When races get tough, his name rises to the top.

I’ve followed his journey for years. We’ve worked together. I’ve promoted his auctions. And I can tell you with full confidence — his honors list is long… and far from finished.

This victory with “Anna” is not a surprise. It’s the consequence of vision, bloodline, and absolute dedication.

This won’t be his last masterpiece. Believe me.
