When pigeon racing becomes an art form, the names Ydo & Elco Homma stand tall among the Dutch elite. On the one-day long-distance race from Hirson (±355 km), flown on May 31, 2025, the brothers delivered a result so dominant it left the competition stunned.
Against 1,422 pigeons in Region 5, the Homma Bros. didn’t just win — they crushed the opposition. Clocking their first designated hen at 12:08:31 with a breathtaking velocity of 1428.711 m/min, she secured 1st place. But they didn’t stop there…
🥇🥈🥉 And Then Some…
Their performance from Hirson reads like a fairy tale:
- 1st – NL23-9608903 (1428.711 m/min)
- 2nd – NL22-8102703
- 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th also went to Homma!
- 12 birds in the Top 30
- 38 prizes out of 53 pigeons (71.7% prize percentage)
It was a textbook performance — aggressive, calculated, and relentless.
🚀 Weekly Favorites in Friesland
Week after week, Ydo and Elco Homma are among the absolute favorites in Friesland. With 12 section victories under their belt, their consistency and high level of performance are unmatched.
Their specialty? Racing widowhood hens — and they do it at the very highest national and even international level. With multiple national ace pigeon titles and Olympiad qualifications, the brothers have made world-class results seem routine — though they are anything but ordinary.
🧬 The Bloodlines Behind the Glory
The Homma dynasty was officially launched in 2006. By 2008, the brothers decided to take their sport seriously. That year, they acquired pigeons directly from Arie Dijkstra, including a son and brother of the legendary “Okidoki.” One of them later became a key foundation breeder: “Maldini.”
Another milestone came through their friendship with Hans & Evert-Jan Eijerkamp. Over the years, the best of Brummen (especially Leo Heremans lines) found their way into the Homma lofts, including Olympiad-level pigeons.
In 2018, a major gamechanger arrived: “Dakar”, now the #1 breeder at Homma. Paired with a Gebr. Van den Brande hen (daughter of “Ace Noyon”), he sired Olympic Luna – 1st Olympiad Yearling Bucharest 2023. Today, “Dakar” breeds top racers even with other hens.
For the one-day long-distance (dagfond), the brothers successfully blended Maldini’s line with C. & G. Koopman, particularly through top breeder “Hardrock-Z.” This pairing has produced a string of stars.
They further elevated their colony with help from Marco Zandvoort and Arnold Paalman (now Eijerkamp-Paalman). Notable additions:
- 🏅 “Golden Haas” via Marco
- 🏅 “Nienke” – 3rd Nat. Ace Pigeon Allerbeste 2021
- 🏅 “Antoinette” – 3rd Nat. Ace Vitesse NPO 2023
- 🏅 “Juna” – 1st Nat. Ace Vitesse PIPA Rankings 2024 – 6x 1st prizes, 5 in big competition!
