Small Steps, Big Goals: Preparing Our Young Pigeons for Barcelona 2028

One Pair Barcelona Challence Training

A Perfect Day for a Solid Training Session

Today was one of those days when everything aligned perfectly for a great pigeon training session. A gentle northeast wind, a crisp 7 degrees, and a beautiful blue sky dotted with a few fluffy clouds — the ideal conditions to provide our young pigeons with an educational experience.

The 6 young pigeons (for now) we are preparing for the One Pair Barcelona Challenge were ready for action. These future champions are being carefully conditioned for what will ultimately be their greatest challenge: the demanding flight from Barcelona in 2028. So, I decided to organize a short but meaningful training this morning.

I drove to Vlaardingen, a distance of just 5 kilometers. Some may think that such a short distance doesn’t mean much, but I firmly believe it’s not about the distance when it comes to training young pigeons. For me, it’s about the experience and strengthening their natural orientation skills. In my opinion, ten sessions of 5 kilometers are far more valuable than a single 50-kilometer flight. It’s the repetition that ensures our young pigeons' internal compass becomes flawless.

After releasing the pigeons, I calmly headed back home, making a brief stop at the bakery to pick up our weekly bread. Despite my extra stop, the pigeons took a few minutes longer to return home to the Pigeon Boss lofts. As I arrived, I saw them coming in: all six safely back, without a feather out of place. The training was a success. This short session is yet another step toward our ultimate goal: Barcelona 2028.

These training sessions may seem modest, but it’s precisely these moments that make the difference. Success is not a matter of luck but of discipline and conviction. Every flight, no matter how small, brings us closer to our ultimate goal. Bam, it’s as simple as that!

Until the next blog!
