Pigeon Boss has been shocked to learn that the Z.L.U. has decided to cancel its annual Star Show. And why? Due to anonymous threats directed at board members. Yes, you read that correctly: anonymous threats against people who voluntarily dedicate their time to our beloved sport.
Unacceptable!
It is absolutely unbelievable that, in a time when we should be striving for unity and respect, the Z.L.U. board is facing this disgraceful behavior. What on earth has gone wrong? Board members fearing an escalation during an event meant to celebrate achievements, come together, and share the love for pigeon racing... What a pitiful low point!
Threats from people aged 61 and older? Really?
The average age of Dutch pigeon enthusiasts is 61, with 20% even older than 75. The image of grandfathers and grandmothers sitting down to Christmas breakfast with their grandchildren is the complete opposite of those sending anonymous threats. Where has the respect gone? Is this the example we want to set for future generations?
The world is literally on fire: Spain is battling floods, and chaos and crisis surround us. And yet, some pigeon fanciers seem to have nothing better to do than hurl mud and lash out at everything and everyone. There is a complete lack of constructive dialogue. Solving issues through conversation? Forget it. Instead, people hide behind anonymous calls or emails to vent their frustrations.
A low point for our sport
This is nothing less than a dark chapter in the history of pigeon racing. It’s a slap in the face of all the honest, hardworking fanciers who pursue this sport with heart and soul. The NPO board has also condemned this behavior in the strongest possible terms. And rightly so! What message are we sending to the world if we threaten our own board members and volunteers — people who selflessly dedicate their time?
SHAMEFUL!
There are no other words for it. Fanciers who stoop to such childish and intimidating behavior are a disgrace to the sport. They not only undermine the integrity of pigeon racing but also the joy and passion that so many of us share.
It's time for our community to take a hard look in the mirror. If we want to preserve this beautiful sport, we must return to core values: respect, sportsmanship, and camaraderie. Now, it’s up to all of us to break this culture of negativity and get pigeon racing back on the right track.
Let's join hands and take a stand against this behavior!
A sad,
